Job #6
Task:
Listening to the radio was a popular form of entertainment in the 1930's. It was a way for people to communicate and know what was happening outside of their family. There were various radio drama shows that had weekly episodes and one such interesting episode was The War of the Worlds. This was a fiction radio show for entertainment purposes but this particular episode caused some great confusion because it was set up to sound like a news bulletin. As people were listening to it, they actually thought that what was being described was happening at the time. Listen to a clip of the show here.
Imagine yourself sitting with your family on October 30, 1938. You are gathered around the family radio listening to the evening broadcast. You grab your pencils and crayons and draw what you imagine the people are witnessing on the farm in New Jersey.
