Mountain climber and author Annie Smith Peck was born on October 19, 1850, in Providence, Rhode Island. Annie Smith Peck set many records during her career as a mountain climber, including the highest climb in the Americas in 1908. She reached a height of 21, 812 feet,and set the record for the highest climb in the Western Hemisphere at the age of 58.

Jane Addams founded Hull House in 1889. By 1893, the house was in full operation
and serving more than 2,000 people a week. Hull House offered
schooling, medical care, legal aid, child care, music, art, and drama to
the underprivileged. In 1909, she helped found the NAACP (The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). She was a leader in woman suffrage and world peace.

Florence Bascom was an educator and geological survey scientist who is considered to be the first American woman geologist. From 1896 to 1908, she was also associate editor of the American Geologist. She wrote more than 40 scientific articles the earth and the earth's soils.
